Girl, 13, Who Wrote Essay on Gun Violence Is Killed by Stray Bullet

Sometimes you wonder, why it is that the children trying to make a difference in this world are the ones who are most harmed. This was the case when it comes to Sandra Parks, a 13 year old girl who was killed by a stray bullet in her home.

Parks, an honerable last name, that of Rosa Parks, was a loving girl who wanted to make a change.

As reported in this New York Times article, Sandra, herself said this about gun violence:

“All you hear about is somebody dying or somebody getting shot and people do not just think about whose father or son or granddaughter or grandson who it was that was just killed.”

The writer of The Hate U Give, Angie Thomas, created a storyline using real world ideas to create symbolism within her book. You don't have to look much past its cover to see stories like that of Sandra Parks in order to compare her story to the of the novel The Hate U Give.
