It's not just cold outside, it's cold everywhere.
I woke up this morning to hear that one of my favourite Christmas songs has been pulled from the radio. How could that be I thought as I scrolled through the post explaining why and how this could happen.
A song written in 1949, a time where most women stayed home and took care of their children, while their husband left in the early morning hours to head to work. A time when men were expected to provide for their wife and children, while their wife took over the grueling job of taking care of their household and children.
A time marked in our history, these songs give a glimpse into the time of our parents and grandparents. We don't erase them from our history books, because, they symbolize the times.
So why have Canadian radio stations decided to pull this song from their own playlists? Due to the following interpretations of the sung lines:
"What's in this drink?" and "Baby, don't hold out."
I for one, can understand why people could become upset when hearing these lines. However, there have been various interpretations of this song and various newer versions that can be played throughout the Christmas month of December that do not include these controversial lyrics. For, as can be seen, there are many ways around these 2 lines. There is no need to evict the whole song from the radio, but instead, to play the many other versions sung by such stars as Ray Charles & Dolly Parton.
